Laguna de Llancanello
(Llancanelo Lagoon)

It is 68 km away from Malargüe, 65000 ha within 120 km perimeter. This lagoon, of crystal waters hosts more than 150000 aquatic birds of different species. This amazing landscape contrasts with a volcanic environment formed by Payunia and Nevado mountains. In 1980 the area was declared Provincial Reserve, which allows its preservation, due to the fact that there are man species in danger of extinction. Subsequent studies made possible the identification of a great number of birds which live in the area and also others that visit the area for a period of time before going back to their places of origin. The surveys of nests show that year after year almost 10000 pairs nest in Llancanelo, in small cost areas and islets not bigger than one hectare.
